A stack of setup sheets started it.
I lead a family, multi-car race team. When my kids were struggling on track, I wasn’t always sure whether we were dealing with the cars or something they needed to learn as drivers.
One weekend, I watched one of them flipping through a stack of setup sheets at the track. We collected information every week, looked at it for a minute, and then buried it under the next week’s sheet. We were doing the work to gather the data, but getting very little lasting value from it.
I knew there had to be a better way.
From storing information to understanding the car.
RDT started as a way to organize that information and make it useful again. It has grown into much more, with engineering and geometry tools that help us investigate what is happening with our cars.
For a couple of years, one of my daughters had been running near the back of the field and experiencing unexplained spins—sometimes even on the straightaway. RDT helped me identify a clearance issue with the left-rear trailing arm on a car built in 2001. That issue had been there since the car was built.
It gave us something specific to investigate. RDT also helped us fine-tune the setup over the final few weeks of the season, and the car became much better.
The progress belongs to our drivers.
At the last race of the year, she started at the back and drove her way to ninth, earning her first top-ten finish on pace. Four cars ahead of her had slower lap times. That gave us reason to believe she had the pace to contend for a top five with a better starting position.
I’m incredibly proud of her—and of where this work has taken our team.
My other daughter is making big strides, too. We have found major geometry issues that we plan to address over the winter with the help of RDT.
Built by racers. For racers.
We built RDT to help ourselves. Along the way, we realized it could help many other racers facing the same questions.
Every measurement, setup change, tire note, and lap time takes effort to collect. RDT exists to help that effort become knowledge you can carry into the next race, rather than another sheet buried in the stack.
